Position Description: The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough is looking for a highly motivated, professional individual to implement the marketing efforts of the Hillsborough tourism and visitor services program and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough. The position will also be responsible for routine tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the Visitors Center. 

The Marketing Coordinator works directly for the Executive Director of The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough.  The position will be responsible for research and posting social media, seeking out new marketing opportunities, generating press releases, conducting market research and preparing a monthly visitor analysis. The position will be responsible for serving as a helpful and well-informed resource regarding Hillsborough’s historic, cultural and entertainment attractions, restaurants, and accommodations. 

This position is responsible for duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have a background in or knowledge of the history of Hillsborough and experience working with the public.  The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, heritage tourism, history, or related field and have two years relevant experience.  Experience working with a non-profit organization is preferred. The candidate must have experience using social media, must be able to accurately and responsibly handle money and necessary transactions, and must have competence with computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent listening, verbal, and written abilities are required.  The ideal candidate must possess flexibility, motivation, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude and be able to perform a wide range of job activities.

Competencies/Skills/Experience

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, heritage tourism, history or a related field and have two years relevant experience
  • Experience using Facebook and Twitter
  • Excellent written and verbal abilities
  • Must be comfortable with public interaction

Job Duties

Marketing

  • Implements annual marketing plan as directed by the Executive Director
  • Assists the Executive Director in the development of the marketing strategies
  • Seeks out new marketing opportunities
  • Generates press releases and produces content for trade publications
  • Conducts market research and visitor analysis as directed by the Executive Director
  • Compiles statistical information for annual report
  • Maintains and is instrumental in the design and evolution of the website
  • Maintains an accurate listserv of marketing and public relations contacts
  • Produces the quarterly newsletter and the monthly e-newsletter
  • Interacts with visitors and guests at the Visitors Center

Social Media

  • Actively monitors electronically published newspapers, websites, and social media streams to share information for the promotion of Hillsborough
  • Updates Facebook and Twitter daily with Hillsborough relevant posts
  • Develops and shares social media best-practices with the Hillsborough community to promote tourism
