Continental and British armies occupied Hillsborough during the Revolutionary War. Commanding figures like Horatio Gates, Nathanael Greene, and Lord General Cornwallis headquartered in the town's inns and taverns. Cornwallis' ill-spent week in Hillsborough in February of 1781 eventually culminated in his surrender at Yorktown eight months later.

The 25th annual Hillsborough Candlelight Home Tour is Sunday, December 4 from Noon – 6 pm. The tour showcases prominent homes and structures built by Hillsborough brick mason John Berry (August 18, 1798-January 11, 1870) who became one of the most respected builders in the antebellum Piedmont. All will be exquisitely decorated for the holiday season.

Come to the Orange County Recreation Center located at 300 West Tryon St. on Saturday, October 29th for the Halloween Spooktacular event. There will be carnival games, bounce houses, pumpkin bingo, face painting and a cake walk. The event lasts from 6:00-8:30pm. Some activities may require a small fee. Tickets may be purchased at the event.
On Saturday, November 5th, the Daniel Boone Merchants will be holding their first ever Daniel Boone Day. The event will take place at the Daniel Boone Village from 10-5pm and will feature crafts and fall activities. The is no cost to attend. For more information please call Ric or Linda at 245-0800.
Join Hillsborough's mayor and others in the lighting of the Town Tree to celebrate the holiday season. The Orange Community Players will kick off the event with Christmas carols, and Mrs. Claus will be there to read "The Night Before Christmas."
Event occurs on the Old County Courthouse lawn, at the corner of E. King and Churton streets.
The annual parade features marching bands, cheerleaders, floats and Santa.
