The 26th annual Hillsborough Candlelight Home Tour is Sunday, December 2 from Noon – 6 pm. The tour showcases numerous residences including historic colonial homes, restored mill homes and others “West of Churton Street”, the main North-South thoroughfare through town.
Join the Burwell School Historic Site on Saturday December 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. for cider, cocoa, children’s activities and crafts provided by Ebenezer Baptist Church before the Annual Hillsborough Holiday Parade.
Set your chairs and blankets on the front lawn of our historic site and watch marching bands, floats and the cheery old man from way up north as the parade route passes the Burwell School.
The Burwell School Historic Site will be displaying a festive collection of artwork during the 2012 Holiday season. On loan from Hillsborough resident Nancy Campbell, the collection consists of various paintings featuring a most beloved character: Santa Claus. Painted every year by Nancy’s father Philip G. Metz as a family Christmas present, he completed many unique Santa paintings to create an impressive Holiday collection.
Guided walking tours will depart from the Alexander Dickson House (150 E. King Street - next to the Post Office!) at 10am and 2pm. The Orange County Main Library will host North Carolina Humanities Council Road Scholar, lecturer and musician Billy Stevens as he presents "Sincere Forms of Flattery: Blacks, Whites, and American Popular Music." Come learn how historic interactions between African Americans and European Americans shaped the volution of American popular music, with its roots in slavery and the fusion of musical traditions brought from both Africa and Europe. Everyone is invited to the Main Library for this free, public event.
