North Carolina author Michael Malone will read from his story collection "Re Clay, Blue Cadillac" from 2-4pm at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts, 121 N. Churton Street. The reading will cap the gallery's current show "It's All About the Story," which features work inspried by the characters in Malone's collection. The event is free and open to the public. HILLSBOROUGH, NC– Join the Burwell School Historic Site on Wednesday March 20th, 7pm, for a reading with Deborah Hicks. Hicks will read from her novel, The Road Out: A Teacher’s Odyssey in Poor America.
The book explores the tragic and inspiring journey of teaching in impoverished America. Hicks relays her own first-hand account of a teacher’s struggle to help disadvantaged school kids rise above debilitating poverty and tumultuous upbringings.
Sharlene Pilkey will be the guest speaker at Hillsborough Kiwanis Club. She will talk about her new book, which is about growing up in Alaska. Hillsborough Kiwanis meets every Tuesday from noon-1pm at the Holiday Inn Express, 202 Cardinal Drive, Hillsborough.
Moreton Neal, noted local author and food editor, will be the guest speaker at the Friends of the Orange County Public Library's annual celebration. She will be discussing the second edition of her book "Chapel Hill Food Lover's Guide with Carrboro and Hillsborough." The gathering will take place in the large meeting room at the Orange Co. Public Library, 137 W. Margaret Lane. Refreshments will follow the program.
On Wednesday, December 19th Antonia’s Restaurant will host a special dinner with Frances and Ed Mayes, Michael Malone and Lee Smith. The dinner “A Tuscan Christmas Dinner with a touch of Piedmont” will feature recipes from the Tuscan Sun cookbook. The meal will have 6 courses from stuzzichini to dolci and wine will be served with each course.
The cost per person is $75 plus taxes and 20% gratuities. The seats are limited: please e-mail back or call 919 643 7722 as soon as possible.
