The Orange County Main Library and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough will host Family Fun Day in Hillsborough on Saturday, September 14, from 10am to 4pm in downtown Hillsborough. Family Fun Days is a special summer series held on the second Saturday of the month from June through September. Each Family Fun Day includes guided history tours, children’s activities, a farmers market, shopping, and dining.
Begin your day at the Orange County Main Library, located at 137 W. Margaret Lane. Children can pick up a Passport to Historic Hillsborough starting at 10am. Inside the Passport you will find names of places to visit in town. Make it your goal to see how many places you can go and how many stamps you can collect!
A one hour guided walking tour of downtown historic Hillsborough, the oldest town in Piedmont North Carolina, will depart from the Hillsborough Visitors Center at 10 am. This month’s tour will focus on Hillsborough’s Revolutionary War history. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in advance at the Hillsborough Visitors Center or by calling 919-732-7741. The Hillsborough Visitors Center is located at 150 East King St.
This month will also feature Colonial Kids Day, a day of free activities taking place at the Burwell School Historic Site, located at 319 N. Churton St., and the Orange County Historical Museum, located at 201 N. Churton St., from 11am to 3pm. Activities will include candle-making, butter-churning, traditional dancing, old-fashioned lawn games, a scavenger hunt, and more.
Other activities include Cupcake Day at the Eno River Farmers Market, located on E. Margaret Lane, from 9am-12pm, free tours of the Burwell School Historic Site from 11am-4pm, and free admission to the Orange County Historical Museum from 11am-4pm.
