Johnson’s Crossroad

Johnson's Crossroad has been described by friends and fans as everything from Appalachian Soul" to "Hillbilly Metal." The band blends blues, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, and Appalachian Old Time for a sound that The Daily Times’ Steve Wildsmith calls “both mournful and jubilant, breezy and graveyard serious.” 

CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
At July’s Last Fridays children can participate in “Making Turtle Puppets with Angela and Frank.”

ADDITIONAL MUSICIANS

Weaver Street Market will have live music outside from 6:30-8:30pm featuring The Ayrmountaineers.

Hillsborough Presbyterian Church's "Tryon Street Stage" will feature "The Blue Suits." These Indy rockers will perform from 6:30-8:30 pm.  Sam, Zach, Will and Alfred are an up and coming young group, influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who find great fun with their music.  Cool down with free scoops of ice cream served up by HPC members.

LOCAL ARTISTS

Artists and craftspeople will set up their wares on the sidewalks around the Old Courthouse.

ART WALK

HILLSBOROUGH, NC – The Hillsborough Arts Council’s Last Fridays Art Walk showcases the talents of local artists in studios and galleries in downtown Hillsborough.  On Friday July 27, many venues will have artist and opening receptions from 6 – 9 pm.

 

  • The Gallery at the Hillsborough Arts Council at 220 South Churton Street presents “Gracelee Lawrence: Artifacts and Creatures” featuring mixed media sculptures by Gracelee Lawrence.
  • Melissa Designer Jewelry at 112 South Churton Street will be closed on July 27.
  • The Eno Gallery at 100 South Churton Street presents in the upper gallery landscape paintings by Jacob Cooley and ceramic figurative sculpture by Donna Polseno and in the lower gallery ceramic work by Nick Joerling
  • The Hillsborough Artists Cooperative and The Skylight Gallery at 102 West King Street presents work by studio artists Jayne Bomberg and Tom Guthrie (The Studio of Collective Effervescence), Jennifer E. Miller, Andrea DeGette, Jacquelin Liggins, Tiffney Marley, and Calvin Brett.  The Skylight Gallery presents “90 plus” a photography exhibit/essay by JLiggins featuring people in their 90’s who are self-sufficient and passionate about life.
  • Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston at 114 West King Street presents watercolors by Josh Taylor.
  • Cup A Joe at 120 West King Street presents Brooke Erceg's personal collection of aprons.  No reception on July 27.
  • Callaway Jewelry & Spiral Studios at 115 North Churton offers beautiful handmade jewelry in sterling silver and gold by metalsmiths/designers Catharine Callaway and Jeannine Rogers.
  • Sovero Art Gallery & Studio at121 North Churton Street, Suite 2-B presents jewelry and oil paintings by Peruvian artist David Sovero.
  • The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts at 121 North Churton Street presents “Refractions” featuring paintings by Linda Carmel and Marcy Lansman, mosaics and glass art by Pam Isner.
  • The Depot at Hillsborough Station at 246 South Nash Street presents photography by Dallas Pridgen.  Take West King Street, go left on South Nash Street and the Depot will be on your right.  There is plenty of parking across from the Depot.

BAKE-OFF CONTEST

The Pie Contest has expanded!  This season, each Last Fridays will feature a "Bake-off" with different themes each month.  Do you have ice cream that gets rave reviews? Then July is your month.  Judging will begin 6pm at Cup A Joe; awards will be announced at Johnson’s Crossroad’s break.  Ice cream must be at Cup a Joe no later than 5pm to be considered.  It will be sold at Cup A Joe after the winners are announced.  Proceeds benefit the Hillsborough Arts Council.  Entry forms and future baked goods themes can be found online at http://www.hillsboroughartscouncil.org/HillsboroughPieContest.html

OTHER AFFILIATED EVENTS

For the July Last Fridays, the Orange County Historical Museum will becelebrating the reopening of their gift shop.  Also, the People's Choice judging will take place of our photo contest. Also, it will be the last Last Friday to check out the wonderful “Sense of Place” exhibit.

The Burwell School Historic Site will be holding Family Movie Night with Ebenezer Baptist Church. There will be a free showing of “The Muppets Movie” at 8:30pm on the front lawn. Punch and popcorn will be provided.

An excellent mix of downtown Hillsborough businesses will be alive with activity. Businesses located on both sides of Churton and King Streets will hold extended hours and special offerings during the Last Fridays event.

Plenty of parking during Last Fridays can be found at the Eno River parking deck.

No dogs are permitted in the courthouse area during Last Fridays by order of the police.  Thanks for your understanding.
