Eno River Farmers Market Will Hold PepperFest on Saturday, August 14, 2010
Hillsborough, NC (August 7, 2010) – The Eno River Farmers Market at the Public Market House in historic downtown Hillsborough will celebrate PepperFest on Saturday, August 14 from 8 am – Noon.
The festival will feature peppers in a spectrum of colors, a variety of flavors, and a wide range of shapes and sizes. The event will feature peppers ranging from sweet and tangy to fiery hot, all harvested fresh by local farmers. Varieties include classics such as Red Bell and Jalapeño, as well as more exotic varieties including shishito, pimento, and habañero.

PepperFest will feature an on-site roaster. Market customers will be able to purchase their peppers from any vendor, and then get them fresh roasted at the market.
The market will offer sample a new twist on a Southern favorite, hot pepper jelly made by Rachel Rose of Spoon, on Accidental Baker flatbread crackers with Hillsborough Cheese Company goat cheese. Many vendors will also be sampling out recipes made with peppers, and a variety of raw peppers.
In addition, the market vendors will have their usual abundance of fresh, local products.
A representative from the NC 10% Campaign will be on hand to explain the program and educate market shoppers. The 10% Campaign encourages consumers to spend 10 percent of their existing food dollars on foods produced in North Carolina. By supporting local food producers and related businesses, the 10% Campaign will create jobs, boost the viability of North Carolina farms and fisheries and promote healthy communities statewide.
The Eno River Farmers Market was one of the first organizations to register its support of the NC 10% Campaign, which launched earlier this summer.
The Eno River Farmers Market offers farm-fresh, sustainably grown produce, cheese, meat, eggs, baked goods, prepared foods, and crafts from local growers and producers. It is open to vendors who reside and produce the items they sell within a 60-mile radius of Hillsborough, NC. Vendors must be the original producer of their items.
