(Hillsborough, NC)---The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough and its hospitality partners will hold this summer's final Hillsborough Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 11th. This special event features a daylong series of offerings suited for all. Family Fun Day is a special summer series held on the second Saturday of the month from June through September. Visitors and residents of all ages can discover and participate in a variety of activities, and enjoy exploring the many sites and attractions found in the heart of Orange County. Each Family Fun Day will include guided tours, children’s activities, artisan demonstrations, a farmer’s market, shopping, and dining. A calendar of events and map will be available at the Orange County Visitor Center, 150 E. King St. from 10am-4pm.
Begin your day at the Alexander Dickson House, 150 E. King St., where children can complete a scavenger hunt around town and return their results for a prize.
Historic sites and attractions will also host special programs on Family Fun Day. The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough will have its Second Saturday Tours at 10am and 2pm. The 90-minute walking tour begins at the Orange County Visitor Center (The Alexander Dickson House, 150 E. King St.). The tour will pass by many of Hillsborough’s historic homes, churches, and cemeteries. Tours cost $5 per person.
Participate in Colonial Kids Day at the Orange County Historical Museum, 201 N. Churton St., and at the Burwell School Historic Site, 319 N. Churton St., from 11am-4pm. Take a step back in time and enjoy colonial games and try on colonial clothing. Stop by the Museum from 1-3pm for a lesson in Colonial medicine. Call the Museum at 919-732-2201 for more information. Also, be sure to visit the Burwell School from 1-3pm to participate in several colonial-themed workshops. Make your very own corn husk dolls. There will be horn books, quill writing, story telling, and butter making. 919-732-7451. This event is free and open to the public.
Make sure to stop by the Eno River Farmer's Market from 8am - noon at the Public Market House located on East Margaret Lane behind Courthouse. Fresh and local produce and products will be available to purchase.
And if you want to cool off visit the Triangle SportsPlex, 101 Meadowlands Dr., and take a dip in the pool or skate around the ice rink. Two can swim for the price of one, 2 kids can swim for $3.25 and adult and child can swim for $4.25. Call 919-644-0339 for more information.
Be sure to visit the blacksmith shop at the Shops at Daniel Boone, located on S. Churton near the I-85 interchange. Paul Gove will demonstrate blacksmithing from 12-5pm. While at the Shoppes at Daniel Boone stop by the antique shops, auction house, and specialty stores throughout the village.
Hillsborough has a wide variety of unique restaurants and specialty shops. Plan to explore them while in the town. Many of them are located along or near the Churton Street Corridor that runs through the heart of Hillsborough. The Hillsborough Wine Company at 200 S. Churton will have a tasting of wines from 1:30-4:30pm.
Family Fun Days have a myriad of activities to keep everyone busy in Hillsborough. Though this is the season's last Family Fun Day, Hillsborough’s offerings will not stop with Family Fun Day. There are a host of things to see and do in this charming town on any given day including historic attractions, shops, restaurants, nature trails, and gardens.
